AIA New York and IES Collaborate to Host Monthly Building Performance Analysis Training Courses
Boston - Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES), a provider of integrated performance analysis software and consulting services for sustainable building design, announced it will be hosting monthly AIA Continuing Education System- registered training courses at the Center for Architecture in New York City. Arranged in conjunction with the American Institute of Architects New York Chapter, which runs the Center for Architecture, these courses will be held over two days every month, starting on March 2-3 and 4-5, and will focus on BIM and performance analysis, utilizing IES' software.
During the two-day sessions, attendees can earn up to 12 Learning Units (LU) toward AIA's annual Continuing Education requirements, including 9 LU which also qualify for Health, Safety and/or Welfare (HSW) and Sustainable Development (SD) credits. The sessions cover a number of workflows that can be used to move from BIM to Performance Analysis, using BIM Models and/or SketchUp and to analyze energy consumption, daylighting and LEED assessment for select credits. The training is split into two 1-day sessions.
Dr. Don McLean, founder and managing director of IES, commented, "These sessions are a great way for us to convey best practices on how to bring analysis capabilities for sustainable strategies to the earliest stages of the building design process using an Integrated Building Performance Model approach. Through the direct connectivity and import capabilities offered by our software to other CAD/BIM systems such as SketchUp and BIM Models, participants will experience how analysis can be integrated into their workflow, keeping sustainable design on-track.
The four levels of IES' software operate using the same rigorous analysis engine and increase in ‘analysis capabilities and levels of detail' as participants move from Level 1 to 4. Level 1 - VE-Ware - is a free-ware tool, and this in addition to Level 2 - VE-Toolkits - is accessible through the plug-ins for Google Sketch-up and CAD BIM Models. Level 3 - VE-Gaia - and Level 4 - VE-Pro - both sit within the full Virtual Environment software platform. The key variation between the levels lies in the amount of detail required to run the analysis and the degree of customization possible.
Integrated Environmental Solutions (IES) is an innovative company at the forefront of the use and development of powerful software simulation tools which help architects, engineers, facilities managers, and all those involved in the development and management of buildings design and maintain truly sustainable properties.
